Ⅰ．まえがき

　視床を中心とした変性過程は，Stern（1939）^1），Grunthal（1942）^2），Schulman（1957）^3），また本邦では，私ども（1965）^4）や土屋ら（1969）^5）が報告した。ここには脳変性部位の形態的，機能的関連，変性進展の時間的経過，変性中核部位，臨床像との関連，病因など，未解決の難問が提示される。私どもはここに上記諸例に類する1剖検例をさらに記述し，従来の知見を補足したい。

A 57-year-old man showed a progressive mental deterioration with personality change, severe memory disturbance and Parkinsonism for about 7 years prior to death. The brain showed a parenchymal degeneration of the thalamus, substantia nigra, globus pallidus, pontine basis, inferior olivary nucleus, cerebellar white matter and cortex, and dentate nucleus in a various degree.
