  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The brains of various diseases were studied with author's specific impregnating methods of oligodendroglia, macroglia and gliafibers, and 60 or more slides were showed,of which only 4 illustrations are published here.

Oligodendroglia loses more or less its origi-nal figure in pathologic human materials sho-wing acute swelling. When one wishes to see normal figure of oligodendroglia, the material obtained by lobectomy must be used. The"Ar-gentiphilie" of macroglia changes under the pathologic conditions chronologically to the side of oligodendroglia which will de statined with the oligodendroglia method.

The correlation between microglia and ma-croglia in their period of proliferation was also discussed. This depends upon the activity and the kind of disease. The following types were divided.

1. type. The microglia proliferation pro-ceeds to the macroglia proliferation. For exam-ple, in encephalitis japonica, macroglia shows only slight activity, while microglia shows a prominent focal proliferation.

2. type. Microglia and macroglia increase at the same time and in the same degree, for example in general paresis.

3. type. The proliferation of macroglia is remarkable while microglia cells aro scarcely recognized, for example in Huntington's chorea and the other hereditary degenerative diseases.
