  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Neurofibrillary tangle, since its early description by Alzheimer, has been generally accepted to be a major cytoskeletal abnormality in Alzheimer's pathology and has been considered to develop exclusively in neuronal cells. Recently, argyrophilic and tau-immunoreactive tangles have been described in glial cells of progressive supranuclear palsy brains, and were designated as glial fibrillary tangles. Also in Alzheimer's disease brains, glial cells have been found to bear tau-positive tangles.
