  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

In this study, argyrophilic, tau positive structures in glial cells, called glial fibrillary tangles (GFT), were classified into four types. According to the differences in morphology and preferential-site in the brains, the GFT originated from astrocytes were differentiated further into tuft-shaped astrocytes and thorn-shaped astrocytes and from oligodendroglia into coiled bodies and argyrophilic threads. Each type of GFT shares common tau-immunoreactivity to neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) in various degree but is negative to ubiquitin.
