　ハンチントン病（Huntington's disease：HD）はその原因遺伝子のエクソン1に存在するCAGリピートが異常に伸長しており，細胞内に異常伸長したポリグルタミン鎖を持ったハンチンチン蛋白質が産生される。これにより，線条体の小型の神経細胞が特異的に脱落し，精神障害（痴呆や性格異常）や不随意運動を引き起こすと考えられている。本稿では，今までに作製された遺伝子改変HDモデルマウスについて考察する。特に，HDモデルマウスとして多くの研究で使われているベイツ博士のグループが作製した，R6ラインマウスの報告から得られた結果を中心に考察する。

Huntington's Disease (HD) is an inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by the expansion of CAG repeats located in exon 1 of the HD gene. Numerous murine HD models have been generated using transgenic technology to develop transgenic and gene knockin mice. In this issue, the HD gene transgenic mouse, R6/2, is examined. The R6/2 line was first reported by the laboratory of Dr. Bates, and has been used by many researchers for investigating the molecular mechanisms of HD, behavior analyses, memory tests, potential cures and more.
