  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Olfaction begins from the binding of odor molecules with huge variety of odorant receptors. One central question in the olfactory system is how the nervous system can handle information from a large variety of receptors. This review briefly summarizes recent progresses of our knowledge about the principles of the con-nection between the olfactory epithelium and bulb, and how the odor information is processed in the olfactory bulb.

Recent studies with molecular biological and electrophysiological techniques revealed basic principles of the projection patterns of olfactory axons to the olfactory bulb.
