「脳死」の神経病理学

Neuropathology required from “Brain Death”.

I．はじめに

　1991年5月発行の神経科学レビュー5で，私共は“「脳死」をめぐる神経病理学”と題し，84自験剖検例の所見と，これまで報告された脳死例の病理解剖学的検索に関する文献について報告^10）した。

　以来ほぼ1ヵ年が過ぎた。しかしこの間，「脳死」に関する議論はさらに広く，より真剣な高まりをみせ今日に至っているように思われる。そうした中で，政府の「臨時脳死及び臓器移植調査会」，いわゆる「脳死臨調」はほぼ2カ年間にわたる33回に及ぶ定例会での厳しい議論と，各種の調査結果などをまとめ，本年1月22日総理大臣に答申した^19）。

We conducted a pathoanatomical study of the brains and spinal cords of 84 autopsied patients who had been clinically judged to be in a state of “brain death” before so-called “death.”

The aim of this study is evaluate the significant findings which had already been present in indi-vidual patients' brains and spinal cords by the time of the judgements, although in all cases there must be autolytic changes clouding such findings. The results and conclusions are as follows.
