Sway while standing increases with advancing age1). Postural support responses are slowed in the older subjects2). Postural responses to the shift are disturbed earlier than the disorders of steadiness on standing6). The measurement of standing time on one-foot is useful for the evaluation of postural regula-tion in the elderly6). Two-thirds of the patients aged over 60 years had severe or moderate impairment of postural reflex7). This suggests that postural reflex dysfunction may be an important cause of unexplained falls in the elderly. Cerebral dopaminergic mechanisms may decline with aging10~12). Postural reflex impairment in the elderly may be partly resulted from declining striatal dopaminergic mechanisms.
