A new CT-stereotactic device (neuronavigator) was developed which translate the operating site into preoperative CT images. We applied this system in various aspects of neurosurgcial procedures to examine its usefulness in neurosurgery.

Methods: The system consists of a 6-joint sensing arm and a 16 or 32-bit personal computer. It projects location of the arm tip onto a corresponding CT slice with a cursor, which guides a surgeon toward the intracranial target during open surgery. The system translates the tip location also into angiogram and echogram, enhancing the ability of navigation.
