  • Look Inside

Roy and Sherrington suggested in 1890 that the brain possesses an intrinsic mechanism by which its vascular supply can be varied locally in correspondence with local variations of functional activity. In 1962, Lassen and Ingvar reported the radioactive innert gass clearance method to measure regional cerebral blood flow and they applied the method for the analysis of regional brain function. Now, it has been well known that the regional cerebral blood flow and metabolism, which can be measured by positron emission tomography (PET), are reliable indicators for regional functional activity of the human brain.
