はじめに

　従来，ヒトの局所脳機能は，脳卒中などで破壊された脳の剖検所見と神経学的所見の対比による解析（損傷法^1））や，開頭術時の大脳皮質の電気刺激などで解析されてきた。CT時代以後，様々な画像診断法が急速に発達し，脳病巣の局在が詳細に描画可能となり，損傷法による脳機能の研究は画像診断情報をもとに患者脳で解析可能となり，様々な研究がなされている^1）。しかしこれらの方法では，ヒトの脳局所の活動状態を生理学的に解析するには制約があることはいうまでもない。本項で取り上げたポジトロンCT（PET）は，X線CTやMRIが基本的には形態学的画像法であるのに対し，脳の循環代謝や神経伝達物質関連などの機能的画像技術である。以下に述べるように，PETは脳の局所作動状態の解析に最近盛んに用いられている。

Neuroscientists have analyzed functional anatomy of the human brain by neurological deficits on patients with localized brain diseases and electrical stimulation of the brain during surgery. Now recently advanced imaging techniques made it possible to visualize non-invasively the functional anatomy of the human brain. It has been well known that regional cerebral blood flow increases regionally corresponding to excitation of brain tissue with various kinds of stimulus, such as physical and neuropsychological tasks.
