  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

“Proteomics”, which is relevant to analyzing the whole “Proteome” at once, includes two cardinal subcategories, “Expression Proteomics” and “Functional Proteomics”. As an analytical tool, “2D-PAGE” in combination with mass spectrometry(MS)has been representative, but “LC-MS/MS” is gradually becoming a major tool in most instances. In contrast to these “Classical Proteomics”, moreover, “Reverse Proteomics” is also emerging as an alternative powerful strategy, that consisted of expression of whole open reading frames(ORFs)followed by the thorough proteomic analysis.

Here we overview these “Classical and Reverse Proteomics”, their applications for “Interactome” and histological analyses, and proteome chip as an example for the “Reverse Proteomics”. Finally, “Bioinformatics” in silico is indispensable for obtaining the high-throughput analysis for any of these methods.
