  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Hemophilus influenzae has rarely been reported as the causative organism of urinary tract infections. Recently, however, two cases of such infection, one with pyonephrosis accompanied by calculus and the other with acute urethritis were encountered, and a few details are presented here. H. influenzae does not grow on the brain-heart infusion agar and other media which are usually employed for the culture of urine samples, therefore is likely to escape detection unless culture is carried out using a medium such as chocolate agar, which contains lysed red blood cell extract.
