  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 29-year-old man started the disease with a butterfly-shaped erythema, high fever and albuminuria at the age of 17. Since then he had been treated mainly with adrenocorticosteroid, by which the general condition was improved temporalily. He repeated remissions and recurrences for the first 10 years.

In the last one and a half year, he could show no more responce to the treatment, and the autoimmune reactions such as LE-cell, LE-test, and antinuclear antibody etc. turned to be positive. He also showed a marked anemia, leukocytosis, and hypoproteinemia, and died on the uremia and acute peritonitis.

Autopsy revealed the perforation of the ileum, which was found to be a cause of the death, the marked atrophy of the adrenals, the lupus nephritis with the wire-loop lesions and semi lumilar bodies of the Bowman's capsules.
