  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Bacteriologic studies, especially the change of strains, the coagulase test, and the phage typing on the staphylococci isolated from impetigo and furuncles in patients at the Department of Dermatology, Jikei Medical School in 1967 were performed. The results were as follows :

1. There was nothing new on the sensitivities of staphylococci of various phage types to antibiotics. No evidence for the alteration of strains of staphylococci was proved.

2. Rather frequently, coagulase negative cocci which have been regarded as non-pathogenic organisms, were cultivated from lesions. The virulence of the coagulase negative cocci to mice was proved to be completely negative, while that of coagulase positive cocci was positive.

3. When forty strains of staphylococci which were susceptible to phage 71 were mixed with each other, definitely bacteriolytic areas were demonstrated. It is probable that further detailed classification of phage 71 type staphylococci by prophage may be performed.
