A 37-year-old housewife first noticed injected conjunctivas of both eyes and slomatitis at the beginning of November, 1965. In February 1966, erythemato-vesicular and bullous lesions, and crusts covered the entire body surface. Histogic picture from the vesicle was typical of pemphi-gus vulgaris.

Adrenocortical hormones were effective, but the disease in the patient was accompanied by herpes zoster, bilateral bronchial pneumonia and thrombophlebitis. She died of general weakness on Octover 10, 1967.

The serum protein level was low and the serum albumin decreased, the α1- and α2-globulin increased and indirect coombs' test positive. The antibody in the serum against an intercellular substance in the epidermis was proved positive by the indirect fluorescent antibody technique.

Autopsy revealed starvation atrophy of all organs except the hypophysis and thyroid, brown atrophy of the heart and lever, bilateral bronchial pneumonia and multiple gastric erosions.
