  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Rather few cases of angioendothelioma of the skin have been reported in Japan.

A 5-month-old boy had a dark red, child-fist-sized tumor on the back, which had been noticed as a dark red macule enlarged suddenly after birth.

Histologic specimen showed a tumor throughout the cutis and subcutis. The tumor cells in the upper dermis had the tendency to vessel formation, while they showed slight tendency to vascular formation and solid cell nests in the deep dermis and the subcutancou tissue. There were dense tumor cell nests around the sweat glands, sebac ous glands, hair follicles, and nerves.

The nucleus of the tumor cell was round or ellipsoid and imlented, stained rather faintly and had few atypicality. Their nucleoli were not apparent in general. These cells had few atypicality and some mitosis.

Reticulum fiber showed circular or strand-like arrangement of nets containing several to many tumor cells. Marked tubular structure of reticulum fiber was proved. Specimens of toluidine blue stain showed many mast mast cells disseminated in the tumor and in the nerve fiber bundle in the neoplasm.
