  • Look Inside

A 45-year-old man with angioleiomyoma on the left lower leg of 20 year's duration was reported. It was a hard, subcutaneous, walnut-sized tumor with normal skin color which did not attach to the covered skin and the underlying structure. No subjective sensation was noted.

It was encapsulated and composed of 2 parts, thumb-and pea-sized tumors. Its cut surface was compact and grayish-white in color

Histologic picture was composed of numerous vascular structures and bundles of spindle-shaped cells, some of which merged in intravascular muscle bundles. The spindle cell was smooth muscle fiber which was red by Azan stain and yellow by Van Gieson's stain. Elastic fibers were some around the blood vessels and argyrophil fibers showed circular or mozaic pattern. No nerve fidere were found in the tumor.

It might arise from smooth muscles of venous wall.
