  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 62-year-old man noticed a rice-sized papule on the back of the nose, which enlarged gradually and became a domeshaped, hard, dark red nodule, 3×2.8cm. in size, with shallow ulce-ration in its center. The ulcer was uneven, dirty, yellowish-red, 1.5cm. in diameter, and studded with horny masses and blood crusts. The regional lymph nodes were not palpable.

Histologic specimens from the border of the ulcer showed pronounced proliferation of squamous cells accompanied by horn pearls. The specimen from the ulcer revealed an alveolar structure of proliferating anaplastic keratinocytes partly with luminal or tubular figures inva-ding deep into the dermis. Some of the tumor cells showed individual cell keratinization, for-mation of horn pearls, mitotic figure, desquamation or acantholysis. Three months after radiation therapy composed of 3,400r of deep x-ray and 4,200r of Co60, the tumor disappeared and replaced by a scar. A review was performed about 85 cases reported from abrord and 7 cases from Japan including the author's case after 1947.
