  • Look Inside

Patients with complaints of mild unilateral sore throat should be exmined carefully, especially for malignancy, but often they reveal no topical find-ings except for the trigger or tenderness point at the part of glossopharyngeal and/or superior laryngeal nerve on the complaint side. Such cases are sup-posed atypical or mild glossopharyngeal (GPN) or superior laryngeal neuralgia (SLN) with no symp-toms in eating including foreign body sensation in the throat.

We have investigated 239 patients with atypical GPN and/or SLN (140 cases in SLN, 77 in GPN and 22 in SLN+GPN) from 1996 to 1998, manifesting frequent in middle and old aged female and early improvement with analgesic.
