  • Look Inside

Antigen-specific immunotherapy was performed in 74 children under the age of 15 years with nasal allergy to house dusts. The contributing factors which may influence to the efficacy of immunother-apy and the prognostic factors which may he fore-seen before the therapy were investigated.

The contributing factors investigated in this study were as follow :

1) The age at the initial treatment.

2) Severity of symptoms before treatment.

3) Coexistence of other allergic or atopic diseases.

4) Serum IgE at the time of initial therapy.

The results obtained showed that the efficacy of the therapy was much higher in the younger age group than in the others and was less remarkable in those who showed severe symptoms before the ther-apy. The efficacy rate was less than 50% in children who revealed scrum IgE more than 1301 IU/ml and in those who had other allergic or atopic diseases.
