  • Look Inside

Between 1976 and 1987, 25 patients underwent acoustic neurinoma surgery by middle fossa ap-proach and the extended middle cranial fossa ap-proach with an attempt to preserve hearing. In 25 patients, postoperative hearing was preserved in 10 patients, and the hearing preservation rate was 40%. For the purpose of clarifying how toselect patients for hearing preservation surgery, the findings of preoperative examinations (audio-metry, caloric test and tumor size) were analysed. In addition to PTA, SDS and tumor size, the findings of ABR and caloric test may be a useful indicator for preservation of hearing.
