Ultrasound-guided peripherally inserted central catheter(UG-PICC)has attracted attention because of low complication rates at insertion. However,UG-PICC is not popular in Japan. We reviewed 60 patients with UG-PICC or other central venous catheter(CVC)insertion and administered questionnaires about CVC insertion to 22 young otolaryngologists. Twelve UG-PICCs were successfully inserted without any complication. The questionnaire results suggested that young otolaryngologists prefer CVC placement owing to its safety and tend to select femoral venous catheterization. We concluded that UG-PICC can be safely and accurately inserted maintaining the patients' quality-of-life,and this technique is expected to be used widely.
