  • Look Inside

Profuse watery rhinorrhea and sneezing occur in many patients after application of lidocain and epinephrine to the nasal mucosa of patients with otorhinolaryngological diseases.

A questionnaire was given to each patient who complained of side effects after the treatment. One hundred seventeen patients responded to the questionnaire were analyzed with respect to the occurrence and features of the side effects. The most remarkable side effect was profuse watery rhinorrhea, but there was no nasal obstruction, which is an important symptom of rhinitis medicamentosa. Tranexamic acid,an inhibitor of plasmin, was effective in blocking the side effects.
