  • Look Inside

Ninety five fungi isolated from earwax samples collected from outpatients who visited to the senior author's clinic during the eight-year period,1994~2001 were identified with seven species of Aspergilli,Polypaecilum insolitum,Pseudallescheria boydii and Tricophyton rubrum. The dominant isolates were A. terreus(53%),A. niger(19%),A. flavus(16%) with A. terreus making up the majority of isolates.

Seven species of Aspergilli isolates viz. A. flavus,A. foetidus,A. fumigatus,A. niger,A. oryzae,A. sydowii and A. terreus were used for drug sensitivity testing.

Terbinafin hydrochloride, neticonazole hydrochloride, butenafin hydrochloride and lanoconazol which have been in market since 1990 were used for this testing. As a result, all agents showed high antifungal activity against tested strains, especially lanoconazol was a sole agent which showed fungicidal activity against A. terreus. Thus we confirmed that lanoconazol would serve as an effective agent for otomycosis treatment.
