We evaluated the outcome of 86 eyes following primary anterior chamber lens implantation. The follow-up period averaged 9 years 7 months. Final visual acuity of 20/40 or over was obtained in 69% of the eyes. The density of corneal endothelial cells was 2000/mm2 or less in 57% of the eyes. Pseudophakic bullous keratopathy was present in 12 eyes (14%), 9 of which had received open C-loop lens (Simcoe). Removal of intraocular lens had to be performed in 14 eyes, 11 of which had received open C-loop lens (Simcoe). The findings show that open C-loop lens (Simcoe) is contraindicated in any case and that 4-point fixation anterior chamber lens (Kelman) may be used in selected cases including aged persons.
