  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 61-year-old woman developed venous stasis retinopathy in her right eye followed, one month later, by central retinal artery occlusion in the same eye. Six hours after onset of arterial occlusion, westarted infusion of 1mg of nitroglycerin and 4.8×105 units of urokinase into the internal carotid artery. The visual acuity improved from 0.09 to 0.8 the next day. Fluorescein angiography showed in-creased retinal blood flow. Hemorrhagic retinopathy showed no further progression. This therapy is recommended as selective recanalization of occluded vessels can be expected by this means.
