  • Look Inside

The differences of the progression mode in glaucomatous visual field defect were analyzed between the low tension glaucoma (LTG) cases treated with topical timolol (group T) and LTG cases treated with topical dipivefrine (group DP). Total visual field loss of retinal sensitivity during first one year with these eye drops decreased 59.0+ 78.9dB in group T and 12.8+16.5dB in group DP respectively, which showed significant differences (p<0.01). Eight of ten progressive cases in group T showed localized progression of visual field defects, whereas only 2 of 4 progressive cases in group DP demonstrated localized progression type. As a possible explanation of these results, topical timolol may influence the optic nerve head circula-tion in LTG. It is necessary to evaluate the influ-ence of the eye drops not only on intraocular pres-sure but also on visual field sensitivities.
