  • Look Inside

We examined 80 eyes with active age-related disciform macular degeneration using fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green video-angio-graphy. The angiograms were graded into 3 groups according to the visibility of choroidal neovascular membrane (CNM). In group Ⅰ, or well-defined CNM, the location and extent of CNM is clearly visible. In group Ⅱ, or ill-defined CNM, the loca-tion of CNM can be presumed but cannot beidentified with certainty. In group Ⅲ, or poorly -defined CNM, the CNM can hardly be seen throughout the sequential angiograms. The 80 pairs of angiograms showed well-defined CNM in 68 infrared angiograms (85%) and in 38 fluorescein ones (48%), ill-defined CNM in 9 (11%) and 29 (36%) respectively, and poorly-defined CNM in 3 (4%) and 13 (16%) respectively. Infrared in-docyanine video-angiography appeared superior to conventional fluorescein angiography in detecting choroidal neovascular membrane in age-related disciform macular degeneration.
