We measured the influences of directional glare on static perimetric findings using program 36 of OCTOPUS 500 E automated perimeter. We tested 12 normal eyes, 4 eyes with cataract, 14 pseudopha-kic eyes without complications and 11 pseudopha-kic eyes with exposed positioning holes, posterior capsular opacity or pit formation due to YAG laser application.

The glare source was attached in front of the video camera for monitoring the eye fixation, 8.7° inferior to the point of fixation. The luminance of glare source was kept at 13 abs.

In normal and pseudophakic eyes without compli-cations, the perimetric sensitivity was slightly reduced corresponding to the site of the glare source. In eyes with cataract, the glare light seri-ously affected the sensitivity in its degree and range. In pseudophakic eyes with complications, the sensitivity was severely reduced corresponding the glare light, exposed positioning holes, or poste-rior capsular opacities. Sensitivity was reduced even when the positioning holes lay behind the iris. The findings suggested that mydriasis in the dark and glare light obliquely entering the eye can con-tribute to glare disabilities originating from unex-posed positioning holes.
