  • Look Inside

A 47-year-old man presented with blurred vision in his right eye. He had a history of epithelial type of herpes corneae 6 years before and stromal type of the same one year before. His corrected visual acuity was 0.4 right. The right cornea showed geographic epithelial defect, stromal edema and folds in the Descemet membrane in the inferior sector. The corneal lesions improved following systemic corticosteroid and acyclovir.By corneal topography system (OrbscanTM), the central corneal thickness was 755μm initially, 525μm 2 months later and 540μm one year later. The observed recovery in corneal thickness seemed to be due to wound healing by keratocytes. This case illustrates that repeated measurement of corneal thickness may be useful in evaluating the course of healing of herpes simplex keratitis.
