  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 71-year-old female presented with decreasing vision. Both eyes showed senile cataract and persistent pupillary membrane. The corneal endothelial cell population was 1,251 cells/mm2 right and 895 left. She underwent uneventful phacoemulsification-aspiration with intraocular lens implantation. The surgically obtained pupillary memrbane showed numerous melanocytes and thick-walled blood vessels. Because of the disorder of neurocrest would lead to both persistent pupillary membrane and the corneal endothelium, due precaution is advocated in planning intraocular surgery in such cases.
