The28 cases comprised 13.3% of 211 patients with oculomotor disturbances and 30% of peripheral neurogenicophthalmoplegia seen during the past 4 years. Decreased level of HbA1c below 7.0% was present in 17 of 28patients, 61%. Abnormal glucose tolerance was first detected in 43% of the patients by glucose tolerance test,OGTT.The clinical outcome of ophthalmoplegia was generally good as recovery took place after treatmentfor an average of 109 days.
