We evaluated the factors related to visual acuity in 104 eyes of 82 cases in late stage of open angle glaucoma. The series comprised 33 eyes with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) and 71 eyes with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). For inclusion in the study, all the eyes had to show no media opacities and to show mean deviation (MD) of less than -20 dB by STAPAC by Humphrey visual field analyzer. No significant differences were present between NTG and POAG groups regarding MD, refraction, visual acuity or age. The central visual acuity was negatively correlated with the myopic power in both groups (p<0.05) and with the absolute value of MD in POAG (p<0.01).
