  • Look Inside

We treated 15 patients with allergic conjunctivitis with peroral azelastine hydrochloride at the daily dosis of 4 mg. Clinical symptoms including itchiness improved in 11 patients, 73%, after 4 weeks of treatment. The mean histamine level in tear fluid in 6 patients decreased from pretreatment value of 0.32ng/ ml to 0.06ng/ml posttreatment. The mean leukotriene B4 (LTB4) level in 9 patients decreased from pretreatment value of 67.5pg/ml to 38.3pg/ml posttreatment. Azelastine hydrochloride improved clinical symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis and produced a significant decrease in histamine and tended to decrease in LTB4.
