帯状角膜変性に対するエチレンジアミン四酢酸ナトリウム（EDTA-Na2）塗布療法

Effect of topically applied EDTA-Na2 for band keratopathy

　EDTA-Na₂の角膜塗布によって帯状角膜変性の治療を行った。症例は陳旧性角膜炎，ぶどう膜炎，続発緑内障によるものが多く，硝子体手術によるシリコンオイル注入眼と眼球癆を含む7例11眼であり，治療は視力改善，整容，疼痛除去を目的とした。EDTA-Na₂塗布術後，全例角膜は透明化して手術目的を達し，その後平均56か月の観察期間に再発や合併症の発生はなく手術効果を保っていた。EDTA—Na₂塗布療法は帯状角膜変性による角膜混濁に対し有効であり，行われてよい治療法である。

We treated 11 eyes of band keratopathy by repeated topical application of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid-Na₂, EDTA-Na₂. As the standard procedure, we followed the original Grant's method of removing the corneal epithelium and applying EDTA-Na₂ at the concentration of 0.01M or 0.05M with a cotton stick. The band keratopathy was due to inveterate keratitis, chronic uveitis, secondary dlaucoma, silicone oil implantation after vitrectomy, or phthisis bulbi. Band keratopathy disappeared in all the eyes without side effects. No recurrence was observed during the follow-up averaging 56 months.
