  • Look Inside

An 11-year-old hemophiliac boy was diagnosed as bilateral cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitisbased on ophthalmological findings and isolation of CMV in the urine. He had been found to be positive forhuman immunodeficiency virus (HIV) 5 years before. Ganciclovir was not used due to its side effects. Hewas placed under high-dose glycyrrhizin and antibiotics as before with additional human immunoglobulin. The fundus findings and vision improved after 27 months. It appeared that high-dose glycyrrhizin and humanimmunoglobulin were effective for HIV infection and CMV retinitis.
