  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Indocyanine green angiography in age-related macular degeneration occasionally shows late-phase hyperfluorescence in areas where no obvious choroidal neovascularization is located. These hyper-fluorescent areas were examined in 8 eyes using monochromatic scanning laser ophthalmoscope, SLO. In 4 eyes in which neovascularization was suspected posterior to the retinal pigment epithelium, a bright area was detected corresponding to the site of hyperfluorescence. A similar finding was observed in the other 4 eyes corresponding to the site of window defect. The findings seemed to show that the hyperfluorescent areas in late-phase indocyanine green angiogram correspond to lesions posterior to the retinal pigment epithelium including neovascularization or deposit of drusen-like substance.
