  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We observed 63 cases of Duane's syndrome dur-ing the foregoing 10 years. We could classify the cases into 3 types. Type 1 was characterized by face turn towards the involved eye and by good stereop-sis. The affected eye showed very limited abduction and unlimited adduction. There were 45 eyes as-signed to type 1. Type 2 was characterized by very limited adduction and minimally limited abduction. Only one eye was assigned to type 2. Type 3 wascharacterized by very limited abduction and adduc-tion. The 17 cases with this type showed head tilt or chin-up or -down position. Stereopsis tended to be poorer in type 3 than in type 1. There were more cases in type 3 manifesting hypertropia in head -straight position and up/down-shoot during ad-duction than in type 1. It appeared that impaired stereopsia in Duane's syndrome was due to vertical strabismus rather than anisometropia.
