Abstract. Purpose:To report a method to mark the peripheral cornea prior to implantation of toric intraocular lens(IOL). Method:Patients with corneal astigmatism are asked to fixate on an oblique line in a slit-lamp microscope. The peripheral cornea is marked with two dyed points along the axis of astigmatism shown by the oblique line. The axis of toric IOL is adjusted to match the marked points on the cornea during surgery. Results:A total of 31 eyes received cataract surgery using the present method. Aberration between the axis of corneal points and actual astigmatism averaged 1.9±1.2 degrees. Aberration between the axis of corneal points and that of implanted IOL averaged 3.1±2.8 degrees. Conclusion:The present marking system is reasonably accurate as a guide in cataract surgery in eyes with corneal astigmatism.
