Abstract Purpose:There are no quantitative reports on the visibility of dacryoendoscopes;therefore we measured the resolution of five different types of dacryoendoscopes and examined the change in resolution with distance from the object.

Methods:Five types of dacryoendoscopes were used:FiberTech MD10, DD10, FK10, CK10, and HD. The Edmund Optics USAF 1951 chart was used for resolution determination, and the spatial frequency(LP/mm)at a distance of 0.5-10 mm from the chart was measured and calculated.

Results:The highest resolution values and distances for each model were MD10(8.00LP/mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm), DD10(14.30LP/mm, 1.0 mm), FK10(14.30LP/mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm), CK10(17.95LP/mm, 1.0 mm), HD(28.50LP/mm, 1.0 mm). In addition, 0.5-1 mm distance for the MD10 and FK10 models, and 4-10 mm for DD10 could not be determined.

Conclusions:The order of resolution was HD(paired lens, near focus, 15,000 pixels), CK10(paired lens, near focus), FK10(paired lens, far focus)=DD10(single lens, near focus), MD10(single lens, far focus). The resolution of the tear duct endoscope was considered to have three factors:1)near focus>far focus, 2)paired lens>single lens, and 3)high pixel count>low pixel count.
