Abstract Purpose:Corneal enlargement, one of the characteristics of childhood glaucomas, makes it difficult to locate the Schlemm's canal in the surgeries of childhood glaucoma. We examined the attachment position of superior rectus muscle can be useful for locating as a guide the Schlemm's canal in such cases.

Cases and Methods:We performed first trabeculotomies on patients with childhood glaucoma from July 2008 to June 2013. We measured the distances between the corneal limbus and Schlemm's canal and between the superior rectus muscle and Schlemm's canal using the images obtained during surgery.

Results:The average distance between the corneal limbus and Schlemm's canal was 2.3±1.1 mm, and that between the superior rectus muscle and Schlemm's canal was 5.0±0.8 mm.

Conclusion:Locating Schlemm's canal in surgeries of childhood glaucoma may be facilitated by using the attachment position of the superior rectus muscle as a guide.
