Abstract Purpose:To report the outcome of scleral buckling surgery for primary repair of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)at Kyushu University Hospital for ten years, and to identify risk factors for anatomic failures.

Methods:This retrospective study included 288 eyes of 264 patients who received scleral buckling surgery between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2018. We investigated their primary anatomic success rate, final success rate, visual acuity changes and complications. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to assess evidence of any association between 17 possible risk factors(e. g. site of tear, detached quadrant, etc.)and the anatomic failures.

Result:The primary anatomic success rate was 92%(265 eyes of 288 cases). The final anatomic success rate was 98%. Logistic regression analysis showed that none of the assessed factors had statistically significant association with anatomic failures.

Conclusion:The primary anatomic success rate was similar to previous studies.
