Abstract Purpose:To analyze the shape for deepening of the upper eyelid sulcus(DUES)in glaucoma patients using prostaglandin(PG)analogue.

Subjects and Methods:Forty-seven eyes in 25 glaucoma patients using PG for longer than 3 months were investigated retrospectively. As a conventional diagnosis for DUES, three investigators decided DUES or Non-DUES using the frontal view photo of the eye and orbit. The number of investigators recognized DUES was defined as DUES score(0-3). For this study, another three investigators measured DUES angle using the side view photo at eye closing. DUES angle was compared at each DUES score and PGs in use. In three cases using PG unilaterally, DUES angle with or without PG was compared.

Results:Mean DUES angle in DUES score 0(11 eyes), 1(16 eyes), 2(8 eyes), and 3(12 eyes)was 161.2±13.1, 146.4±18.7, 139.6±23.5, 117.3±14.6 degrees respectively. DUES score 2 was significantly smaller than DUES score 0, and DUES score 3 was smaller than DUES score 2 in DUES angle. In more than DUES score 1, Mean DUES angle in latanoprost group(16 eyes), bimatoprost group(12 eyes)and the other PG group(8 eyes)was 153.6±15.1, 120.2±13.4, 135.9±25.8 degrees respectively. Bimatoprost group was significantly smaller than latanoprost group in DUES angle. In three cases using PG unilaterally, DUES angle with PG was 123.9±2.9(DUES score 3), 126.9±2.7(DUES score 3), 150.4±3.4(DUES score 2)degrees, and that without PG was 155.2±1.9, 158.5±3.8, 172.3±2.4 degrees respectively. DUES angle with PG was significantly smaller than that without PG.

Conclusion:Measurement of DUES angle promises to be useful for DUES diagnosis.
