162 samples of soft contact lenses (SCL) from various companies, which were suspected of being mycologically contaminated, were examined for qualitative and quantitative distribution of fungi, with the following results : The frequency of recov-ery of fungi from the SCL, Hydron H-55, was the highest, followed by HOYA T-60, Yumecon, B & L EX-79 and Breath-O, in that order, with a mean of 48.7%.

Quantitative analysis of the presence of fungi revealed high rates of detection of molds and yeasts on Breath-O and Hydron H-55, respectively.

Qualitative analysis of the presence of fungi revealed Aspergillus and Penicillium on many Breath-O and Yumecon SCL, various species on many HOYA T-60 SCL and Candida on many Hydron H-55 SCL and Candida and Penicillium on many B & L EX-79.
