螢光写真で網膜下新生血管膜を証明した滲出性老人性黄斑変性症に対し,44例は赤色クリプトンレーザーで,91例は青緑アルゴンレーザーを使用して光凝固を行った.
術後の視力改善率はクリプトンレーザー(24例,55%)がアルゴンレーザー(32例,35%)にまさった(p<0.01).
赤色クリプトンレーザーでは中心窩近接部や黄斑鼻側の新生血管凝固も可能で,視力0.2以下の症例に術後視力改善する例が多かった.
クリプトンレーザー凝固によっても12例(27%)に視力悪化を阻止しえず,その点はアルゴンレーザー凝固(31例,38%)と大差がなかった(p>0.4).
Subretinal neovascular membrane in senile macular degeneration was treated by photocoagula-tion, with red krypton laser in 44 eyes and with blue-green argon laser in 91 eyes. After the treat-ment, the visual acuity improved in 24 cases (55%) when treated by krypton and in 32 cases (35%) when treated by argon.
The beneficial effect of krypton was particularly apparent in eyes with the pretreatment visual acu-ity of less than 0.2, as it was possible to treat neovascular membranes either close to the fovea or located nasal to the macula.
Laser treatment did not prevent further deteriora-tion of visual acuity in 12 cases (27%) treated by krypton and in 31 cases (38%) treated by argon.
