  • Look Inside

We re-evaluated the concept of pseudoglaucoma based on a clinical analysis of 5 cases. Pseudoglau-coma was defined as eyes with insidiously progres-sive glaucoma-like visual field defect, without of elevation of intraocularpressure beyond 20mmHg and without disturbances in the pressure-regulating mechanism.

We could devide out cases into two groups according to their clinical features. The first group was characterized by large glaucoma-like cupping and an episode of systemic circulatory failure of sudden onset. The second group was free of glau-coma-like disc cupping but was associated with chro-nic systemic and localized circulatory fisturbandces. In both these two groups, pallar of the optic disc was more conspicuous than disc cupping. Pseu-doglaucoma cases with circulatory disturbance in the optic nerve head ought to be regarded as an instance of chronic ischemic optic neuropathy.
