A polarized light attachment was made for a Topcon slit-lamp microscope. The attachment con-sisted of a polarizer placed under the lens of the slit illumination and of a pair of analyzers placed in front of the binocular microscope. In front of the analyzer of the right microscope, a sensitive color plate was attached. With this instrument, the dark hyperbola observed in the normal cornea was evaluated. The corneal scars and distortion of the corneal lamellae could be visualized. Even a thin scar could be detected with the use of the sensitive color plate by changes in the interference color.
