The disturbances of the blood-aqueous barrier (BAB) after various types of cataract surgery were evaluated by means of anterior segment fluoropho-tometry.

After thirty minutes following intravenous injec-tion of 10% fluorescein-Na solution (ling/kg), the blood was sampled to determine the free fluores-cein concentration in the plasma ultrafiltrate (Fp). Simultaneously, fluorophotometry was used tomeasure fluorescein concentration in the anterior chamber (Fa). We used the Fa/Fp ratio at 30 minutes as an index of permeability of the BAB.
