  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

It has been reported that pentoxifylline softens cell membrane of erythrocytes and improves blood flow in ischemic region. We considered that pathologic conditions involving the retinal microcirculation might be improved by pentoxi-fylline.

The clinical effect of the pentoxifylline, given orally at the daily dosis of 300 to 600 mg was examined for three months, using 20 cases (23 eyes) of retinal haemorrhages caused by distur-bance of the retinal circulation, i. e., branch and or total obstruction of the retinal vein, obstruc-tion of the retinal artery, diabetic retinopathy and polycytemic retinopathy.
